The basics
Long-acting
NEXPLANON is a long-acting prescription contraceptive that lasts for up to three years. It doesn’t require daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly dosing.
Effective
NEXPLANON is more than 99% effective at preventing pregnancy, which means that there is less than one pregnancy per 100 women who use NEXPLANON for one year.
Estrogen-free
NEXPLANON contains a progestin only hormone. Because it doesn’t contain estrogen, your healthcare provider may recommend IMPLANON even if you cannot – or don’t want to – use estrogen.
Reversible
Your healthcare provider can remove IMPLANON at any time. If you decide you want to become pregnant, the ability to become pregnant usually returns quickly after your healthcare provider successfully removes NEXPLANON. Some women have even become pregnant within days of having the contraceptive removed.
How it works
NEXPLANON is an implant contraceptive that prevents pregnancy in several ways. The most important way is by stopping release of an egg from your ovary. NEXPLANON also changes the mucus in your cervix and this change may keep sperm from reaching the egg. Also, NEXPLANONchanges the lining of your uterus.
*NEXPLANON can be removed at any time. It must be removed by the end of the third year and may be replaced by a new NEXPLANON at the time of removal, if continued contraceptive protection is desired.
